What Should I Wear to the Reunion?

Class of '88:

We have been getting many questions regarding outfits and what to wear.  Here are some guidelines to help you out:

Friday Night Mixer

The Backyard Tavern (formerly called the Grisby Grill) has both indoor and outdoor seating.  The outdoor area has cooling fans, LOTS of shade from trees and overhead structures, two fountains, and outdoor bar and casual seating.  It is very relaxed.

So think shorts and a golf shirt and sandals for guys, and a cotton summer dress or shorts and sandals for girls.  Dress as if you are going to Hula Hut in Austin, Lupe Tortillas in Houston, or the Khema boardwalk in Galveston.

Saturday at the Ranch

The Ranch is fantastic!  J  The area where we are having our event is a large 150’ long and 50’ wide covered building with A/C that has glass garage doors that can be opened to the patio and look out onto the grassy areas where we will have the waterslide moonwalk, regular moonwalk, and family games.  The piñatas will be set up in a heavily shaded area on the put-put green.  There is plenty of shade from the covered patio and the indoor area where we will be set up with tables and food.  The central bar will be serving wine, beer, sodas, and water.

Again, for guys think golf shirts or t-shirts and shorts and for girls think cotton summer dresses, shorts, and sandals.  You may want to think about tennis shoes if you want to participate in family games.  There is a basketball court for the kids as well.  Kids should wear a fun outfit they can run around and get dirty in.  Also, we will have the waterslide moonwalk and water balloons so be sure to pack their swimsuits.

Saturday Night Cocktail Party

The Hotel Icon is a bank in downtown Houston that was converted into a Hotel.  It is swanky and fun, but not the Ritz Carlton – so don’t freak out.  J  Dress for guys can range from coat & tie to hip club wear - long sleeve shirt with a pattern on it, nice dark slacks, and some snazzy shoes.  Depends on your style – but make it nice.

For girls, think fun cocktail dresses, your favorite black dress, or a jazzy top with a cute black skirt or black pants.  This is a cocktail party – although we originally called it a semi-formal – that was misleading.  We don’t want to re-create prom over here.  J  Again, go with your style and what you feel good in.  There is no runway and Cindy Crawford was busy this weekend so it is all about you and what makes you feel good.  J

Thank You!!!

Class of '88:

Thank you to all who bought their Early Bird Tickets by the deadline.  We really appreciate it!  We are releasing funds from the website on Monday so we can pay the various Venues (Backyard Tavern & Hotel Icon) the following Monday.  Your participation has been phenomenal.  Thank you!

We’d also like to thank everyone who RSVP’d for the events.  It has been helpful to be able to track your responses to get an accurate headcount.  75% of the class has RSVP’d either “yes”, “no”, or “maybe” to one or all three events.  That is impressive!  We can’t thank you enough.  J

Finally, we’d like to thank those of you who dug deep and have already made a donation to the “Mayde Creek Alumni Fund” in advance.  Again, we are impressed!  Thank you!

We have put together some incredible raffle and silent auction items for our events which are located on the Sponsors page of the website.  We will be adding more items this weekend.  Be sure to check the Sponsors page to see if there is something you’d like to bid on – we have some very compelling items with more to come.

Thanks again to all of you for helping make Reunion 2008 great!  See you in a couple of weeks!

Reunion 2008 Budget Explanation

Class of ’88:

We’d like to be transparent regarding the budget for the 2008 Reunion.

Below are the costs of running each event and what our Early Bird ticket prices are based off of.  Ticket prices were determined based on assumed # of attendees, included extras (drink tickets, t-shirt, food), and website transaction fees.  Venues were chosen for highest quality at lowest cost.

Saturday

Cost

$1,559

Total

$3,066

$3,193

$10,219

*The Hotel Icon was the most inexpensive hotel of the 20 hotels we surveyed between the Galleria & downtown Houston.

When the committee met via conference call for the first time back in January, we discovered that we had a budget of only $1200 to work with from the fundraising efforts of the 10-year reunion.  Given the above costs, it was impossible for us to pay for even 1 event.  As such, the entire reunion is being funded by ticket sales.

Below are our additional reunion expenses:

Event Budget

Starting Balance

 $     1,200

Hotel Deposit

 $       800

DJ

 $       300

Flowers

 $         50

Moonwalk

 $       130

Waterslide

 $       130

Piñatas

 $         50

Web Hosting

 $       130

T-Shirts

 $       500

Gift Bags

 $         50

Miscellaneous

 $         50

Ending Balance

 $      (990)

As you can see, we are about $1,000 in the red.  We have given $800 to the hotel, and $300 to the DJ, leaving us with $100 to cover additional expenses.  Each committee member has donated between $50 and $100 of their own funds to cover the expenses not in the original budget of $1200.  Pete Bell has underwritten our Saturday day event to further reduce overall costs.

The Early Bird ticket was created as the hotel requires us to pay 80% of the cost five days in advance of the event.  It takes 5 business days for the web hosting company to release the funds from their account into ours - hence the cut-off for Early bird tickets on 7/11/2008.  We are helping you, and you are helping us.  J  *Event entry will be regulated by arm bands.

We would also like to outline that each committee member is paying for their ticket, their guest’s ticket, and their hotel room.  We have no comps for anyone – not even committee members.  Our $1200 budget has required us to fund the entire event from advanced ticket sales.

We are looking forward to seeing each of you who can attend, and will miss those who cannot.  We thank you for your Early Bird ticket purchases and donations.  Without them, we could not run the event.  We are in the process of lining up some fantastic raffle and silent auction prizes for our Reunion 2018 Fundraiser.  We are asking alumni who cannot attend to please make a donation to the MCHS Class of ’88 Alumni Fund via the site.

We are looking forward to seeing each of you on July 25th and July 26th!
